Audio on Quizlet
Quizlet lets you hear your terms and definitions spoken aloud in 18 languages using text to speech (TTS) audio. You can hear TTS audio in Learn, Flashcards, Write and Spell modes. Upgraded Quizlet Teachers can also enable audio in Quizlet Live games.
If you have a Quizlet Plus or Quizlet Teacher account, you can record your own audio on the Quizlet website! Please see our Recording custom audio with Voice Recording article for more details.
- Chinese (Simplified and Traditional)
- Greek (Modern)
On a set page, select the speaker icon to play audio for both the term and definition. Select a term or definition to hear audio for only that term or definition.
To exclude text from being read along, place text in parentheses. For example, "cat (animal)" will be read as "cat." This is a great way to add notes, examples or hints to your terms and definitions.
If you'd like to record your own audio, you can upgrade to Quizlet Plus or Quizlet Teacher.
Why isn't some or all of my audio being read back? Please see our Why isn't my audio being read back? article for help clearing up any issues!
You may have accidentally selected the wrong language for your terms or definitions on the Create Set page, causing everything to sound strange. To fix that, go to your set page and select Edit. Then, check the language(s) listed below your terms and definitions to make sure they're correct.
Why does my audio sound weird?
If you don't have edit access to a set, make a copy and correct the language(s) on that new copy.
Why are some of my terms and definitions pronounced incorrectly?Quizlet licenses our TTS audio from another company, and some of their audio files may include mispronunciations. We aren't able to change these files, but would appreciate if you let us know about them so we can keep track.
How can I turn audio on or off? Can I turn it off permanently?Go to a set page and select a study mode that offers audio (Learn, Flashcards, Write or Spell). Then, open the Options menu to turn audio on or off.
Once you disable audio on a set, it will remain off until you turn it back on. We don't currently offer a way to disable audio for all of your sets.
My audio is too fast, how do I slow it down? You can adjust audio speed in Flashcards and Spell modes on the Quizlet website. To do that, go to a set page and select Flashcards or Spell.
In Flashcards mode, open the Options menu and select Show advanced audio options, then select Slow for your terms or definitions.
In Spell mode, open the Options menu and select Slow below the audio On/Off buttons.
This option isn't currently available on the Quizlet mobile apps, but it may be something we offer in the future.
